Birthday Clock

I got something good for my birthday! This is what I unwrapped first:

It went to this!

An Ingraham Colgate, made around 1915. It's got a pendulum movement, and it works!

It is quite a bit fast, though. We'll see what we can do about that eventually.

And I also received a figurine of someone who would enjoy the chocolate chip cheesecake we had.

I am not a clockmender

My brother asked me to fix his watch.

It had stopped; it being a simple quartz, I thought most likely the battery was dead. So I popped it open and put in a new battery.

Even a quartz can look pretty cool inside.

That got it running again, but there's another problem: the minute hand is very loose; it just flops around, not bothering with keeping track of the minutes. And this brought home to me, as much as I like clocks and watches and like taking them apart, I don't really know much about how they work. Something I must learn! Ah if I only have the time... in the meantime my brother just looks at his cell phone. Alas...

More peddling

I made more things and put them in my Etsy shop! The pictures are links to the item listing.
Brooches:

And earrings made from music box wind-up keys:

And I took a leaf out of Shaylynn's book and made some little bags out of fabric scraps in which to ship these wares.

Birthday Peddling

Today is my birthday and to celebrate and work hard, I'm having a sale at my Etsy Shop! And I've just added alot of new things there, like greeting cards and prints including of these pictures:

And some cool earrings I just made:

As for how it's a sale: I made a coupon code for 25% off, because I'm turning 25. The code is SEAFARER after an amazing, awesome play I just saw after having read it a year ago and been dying to see it ever since. Just enter the word when you check out and you'll get the discount!

Oak tree and Easter flowers

I have to do three plein air pieces by mid-May to enter the Jaques Art Center summer competition, which I've witnessed before, but never entered. This is the first!

And Easter flowers.

Eat us Alive

Inspired by the song "Yellow Light" by Of Monsters and Men, the Kagamines, and the Hunger Games Trilogy.

The coloring of this has so many layers. Gesso and acrylic wash, several ink washes with masking, and some marker. I can't believe I did it all in one day. It looks so much better in real life!

One big clown nose

I was playing around because I hadn't oil painted in months, and ended up with something weird and Magritte-y.

A Bed made out of Clouds

Avatar fanart, which I haven't done for a long time, but then I saw the first two episodes of Legend of Korra!

They told us in painting class: Always mix colors. Never use straight from the tube. (except with white for the whitest highlights.) Here I followed that principle with markers.

Seal of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter

After granting me the honour of doing the US Anglican Ordinariate coat of arms, they also let me design the seal! I heard it was used officially for the first time just recently, with an embosser custom-made by these nice folks.

Happy Maundy Thursday!

Dianthe and Ink & Fairydust

An Illustration for a story in the latest issue of Ink and Fairydust; through circumstances, it made the front cover. And here's the magazine itself!

Snow drawings X

These are the last of the snow drawings; I did the above on the first day I was there,

And this one later on, shortly before the snow melted.

Did I tell you I like thrift stores?

The other day I went shopping at one and found two amazing clocks.

This one has just gorgeous hands--so tiny, ornately carved, with ivory enamel!

It doesn't work; something's wrong with the main spring. I need to get the movement apart; there are tons of luscious gears in there.

The other clock has a gorgeous solid brass face, a unique hour hand, and an awesome name: Telechron.

I was taking it apart and it's incredibly well-made. I can't get the back plate off but there are only four gears underneath, an elegant design.

I did some research and found out that Telechron was America's first electric clock company. And that my clock is called The Inheritance, was made in the fifties, and would be worth about fifty dollars if I could get it to run. (I paid seven dollars for it.)

Here you can see the frame. This picture credit Jay Kennan.

It's supposed to have a cord but doesn't. But maybe I can get it fixed!

Oh, and I got some clothes.
