Baker's Dozen 7 - Location

 

Even though October is long over, I return to my 13 Ace Attorney fanart prompts I started doing last year as an abbreviated Inktober! The seventh theme is Location and I chose Heavenly Hall.

I really like the concept of little shacks in which to shelter from the snow through the night. And I enjoyed Larry's role in that case. And now I think he was speaking the truth about Sister Bikini being his mother!

"The goose, Mr. Holmes! The goose, sir!" he gasped.

"Eh? What of it, then? Has it returned to life and flapped off through the kitchen window?" Holmes twisted himself round upon the sofa to get a fairer view of the man's excited face.

"See here, sir! See what my wife found in its crop!" He held out his hand and displayed on the centre of the palm a brilliantly scintillating blue stone, rather smaller than a bean in size, but of such purity and radiance that it twinkled like an electric point in the dark hollow of his hand.

My second Christmas picture for this year, and second of my series of illustrations of Sherlock Holmes stories in the context of Great Ace Attorney.

I had a bit of a reading comprehension failure here. Carelessly, I imagined Peterson as a policeman because it's normal for policemen to rush in and share their findings with Sherlock. I drew it, then I was like, "Wait, was he a policeman?" and looked back at the book: No, he wasn't, he was a "commissionaire." I wasn't sure what exactly that meant, the only seemingly-relevant result in a cursory internet search wanted to teach me Polish, so I just left it. After all, this is in an imagined context of Iris having fictionalized events for the stories, so if some things are different, it makes sense.

In any case, I'm very pleased how this turned out. I think I'm getting better with value range. Merry Christmas!

And here's the announcement: Arkhaven Comics is making a new digital comics platform, akin to Webtoons, and Clockwork Dancer will be one of the launch titles, alongside many exciting comics including ones by Chuck Dixon, creator of Bane and Stephanie Brown! More information here.

Art of 2020 & Clockwork Dancer #2 sneak peek!

 

This year, I finished the second volume of The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints (March) and the first issue of Bovodar and the Bears (May and July) but that is not yet available; the potential publisher has to make some decisions first. From what they said, it looks hopeful, but we'll have to see! In the meantime we will continue work on the next issues thereof!

One thing I didn't work on enough this year is Paper Doll Veronika (June). I haven't updated it since then, so that's something I definitely want to get back to now that my most recent milestone is passed, that is...

 

My work on Clockwork Dancer Issue 2 is complete! I finished inking the last page as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve!!! Now it goes to the colorist. To see when it will be available, check writer Jon Del Arroz's blog! Issue 1 is available in both digital and paper!

 

I think my art is much improved from Issue 1. Here's a wee preview:
