The mermaid fishing scene in Paper Doll Veronika was heavily inspired by one of my favorite childhood books:
A 1994 edition of The Little Mermaid illustrated in sumptuous watercolor by Michael Hague. This book, not the Disney movie, fueled my girlhood mermaid obsession. The following two illustrations especially:

After finishing The Silmarillion in 2022, I'm finally getting to the first of all the many illustrations it inspired in me. Starting with Lay of Leithian character drawings.
As I said when I declared my intentions, I'm going for a children's-book look. People may not care for the childishness of the style, and I don't know whether Tolkien would approve, but that's how The Silmarillion inspired me. It was so much less magniloquent and more fairy tale than I was expecting, especially the original version of the Tale of Tinuviel, and that's something I particularly loved about it.

Arkhaven Comics has a Substack through which one can get daily emails of comic updates. Currently it's the best way to keep track of comics on Arktoons. Anyway, the emails feature an image from one of the comics, and they edit out the speech bubbles since they'd be distracting out of context.
