Paper Doll Veronika update

Paper Doll Veronika has updated; Chapter 12, "The wizard who charmeth wisely", has begun!
The chapter begins here.
The story begins here.

I'm very pleased with how this pink dress's tissue paper ruffle turned out. There is a blooper in this chapter that I noticed too late and so had to keep. See if you can find it!

It updates every Friday. I recommend using the "Save your place" gadget, even once you catch up, because the site starts at the beginning and updates are several pages.

Veronika Bosch, who's never left her father's estate, has to go on a journey when envious animals kick her out. Half collage, half puppetry, it's the traditional media equivalent of an elaborate sprite comic.

St. Brendan coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Brendan was an Irish monk who went on a voyage of exploration. Among his many adventures, he and his brothers celebrated Easter on the back of a giant fish named Jascoyne. You can read the entire account of his journey here. His commemoration is May 16.

Paper Doll Veronika update

Paper Doll Veronika has updated; Chapter 11, "Maverick Feudalism" is posted!
The chapter begins here.
The story begins here.

This panel rather gives away what happens in the chapter, but I wanted to feature it for the poetry. I like stories that mix some verse in with the prose, like The Lord of the Rings, and there's already been some of that with the oracular pronouncements. There will be more! I like this one, and I looked at some real historical oaths of fealty to model it on.

Guardian Angel of Portugal coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

The Guardian Angel of Portugal appeared to the children at Fatima to prepare them for their coming visions of the Blessed Virgin, and aided in some medieval battles against the Moors. In the current conflict with Humanist Globalism, it is well to remember that nations have guardian angels.

The Angel of Portugal's commemoration is June 10.

St. Boniface IV coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Boniface IV was pope at the beginning of the seventh century. He consecrated the former Pantheon into the Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs. Doing so involved an intense exorcism, with the demons shrieking as they were driven out. You may not be able to tell in this small image (buy the book to see the full-size page) but I drew the demons in the likenesses of Jupiter, Mars, and Venus. As I've said, the stories of pagan gods can be worth preserving as fiction, but when worshiped, devils occupy their roles. Pope St. Boniface's commemoration is May 8.

St. Casilda coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Casilda was born a Muslim princess in Moor-occupied Spain. She would bring food and medicine to the Catholic prisoners and listen to their witness to Christ. Once when a guard tried to catch her at it, the items became roses. Later, she fled to a Catholic region, was baptized and became a religious. Because she was not yet baptized at the time portrayed in the illustration, I made her halo incomplete but still present because she already believed and was living virtuously. Her commemoration is April 9.

Who is like to God?

Today is the feast of the Dedication of the Basilicas of St. Peter and St. Paul.

A month ago, rituals honoring the pagan goddess Pachamama took place in the Vatican gardens, the Church of St. Maria Transpontina, and the Basilica of St. Peter. This very likely caused the church and basilica to become desecrated.

The stories of pagan gods, if regarded as fiction, can sometimes be a part of heritage worth preserving. But when worshiped, pagan gods are demonic forces. Because the gods aren't real, the worship goes somewhere. Especially when said worship is in conscious opposition to the one true God, it goes to demons.

Demon worship in the Basilica of St. Peter. The sorrow and wrath that this demands is beyond comprehension. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us. God the Father Almighty, Christ the King, and the Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.

You are free and encouraged to repost and share this image anywhere you wish, no credit necessary, as long as:

1. You do not claim that you drew it.
2. You do not argue that the honoring of Pachamama was acceptable.

St. Nicholas of Flue coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Nicholas of Flue was a successful and devout soldier, husband, and father. One day he had a vision wherein a lily came from his mouth and arched up towards the sky, but then fell back down to earth and was eaten by a horse. This meant that his thoughts that aspired toward Heaven were being taken over by earthly concerns. Thereafter, with consent from his family, he became a hermit. His commemoration is March 21.

St. Juliana coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Juliana, also known as St. Julia, was my favorite saint when I was about eight years old. A Roman virgin martyr, she was tortured by being hung up by her hair and confounded a devil who came to her disguised as an angel to urge her to give in and honor the pagan gods to preserve her life. Her commemoration is February 16.

St. Hyacinthia Mariscotti coloring page preview

This is one of the coloring pages newly made especially for The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, volume 1 of which contains saints for every single day of January through June.

St. Hyacinthia Mariscotti only became a nun because the man she wanted to marry married her sister instead. As a religious, she still lived in luxury such as her noble birth made her accustomed to. That is, until a priest rebuked her, at which she threw out her costly clothes and food and lived the rest of her life in humble asceticism. Her commemoration is January 30th.

The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints

The Day-by-Day Coloring Book of Saints, Volume 1, is now available for purchase, either directly from Sophia Institute Press or, starting tomorrow, from Amazon. This has a saint coloring page for every single day of the year, Volume 1 containing January-June. That's 181 pages!

In 2013, I made a coloring book of every observed saint's day in the Roman Calendar. In 2017, Sophia Institute Press purchased the rights to those pages and commissioned more to make this book, and they have also added biographies of the saints, written by Anna Maria Mendell.

There isn't another coloring book like this; in my experience, there aren't even that many books of saints for every single day of the new calendar, so this is pretty special. Over the next few days, I'll be posting some reduced images of some of the new pages, as a preview.
