I will be a one-artist Artist Alley, maybe

Possibly? There could be other artists vending, but I've never seen it at the ones I've been to; it's generally booksellers. What I am talking about? Well,

I will have a table at this year's G.K. Chesterton conference! I'll have loads of copies of the Liturgical Calendar Coloring Book on CD, minus the shipping cost that you have to pay if you order it on CD online! I'll have the whole Coloring Book printed out for perusing! I'll have for the first time the complete set of Rosary Mysteries Coloring pages, including Joyful, on CD! I'll have a couple copies of Clare's Costly Cookie! I'll have art prints and cards! I will have copies of a booklet of poetry by G.K. Chesterton illustrated by me with never-before-seen illustrations! I'll have a short story comic, never-before-seen-in-its-entirety, in booklet form! And I may have a big project to unveil, depending on whether I can figure certain things out in time.

I think most of the folks who are going have already signed up, but if you're going, I'll be there too!

Batman: Decadence - Masque cover

Today (not the date on this post, but rather July 23rd; I couldn't finish the picture till after midnight, so I say it's not tomorrow till dawn) is Batman Day, the date DC selected for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the subcreation of Batman! So, I did the cover for the first story of my Batman fancomic. I hope to have the first chapter done by August 25th, and I will post it here.

Jaques Plein Air 2014

Okay, so here's my proper post about the Jaques Art Center's plein air painting competition of this year. First, here are the paintings I did for it:

Pigeons on the Creamery

Willow on Cedar
(I didn't have time to take a photo of that one before I had to frame it.)

Old Swing

I also did another, for the Quick Paint competition, (during which we were limited in time to two hours and in space to the fairgrounds,) but I didn't get a photo of that one yet.

So, as mentioned in the earlier post, I got Honorable Mention for the Willow on Cedar painting, which is the one I'm happiest with, so I'm glad.

First prize went to this:

A Lily Day by Mary Ann Cleary.

And Second:

The Old Creamery by Robert Luedtke. That's of the same building as my Pigeons on the Creamery. I understand that this painting got left on the roof of the artist's car and flew off into the road. Fortunately he and his wife were able to recover it, but you could see a little grit in places!

Third Place:

The Logan by Kari Hogden.

And here are some more Honorable Mentions and others I liked:

Clockwise from top left: Bend in the River by Duane Barnhart, Bright Beginning by Paul Boecher, Going No Where Fast by Dianne Lewis, Peaceful Dusk by Duane Barnhart, Waiting for the Next Train by Tom Dimock, and Downtown by Cynthia Kath.

The paintings are on exhibit till the 26th. Now I live here, I can do this every year!

Mentioned Honorably again!

Today was the judging of the Jaques Art Center plein air painting competition, and I got Honorable Mention! I'm not posting all the pictures I did and photos I took yet, however, because at this point privilege still goes to seeing it in person! There's lots of paintings that are really good. If you're anywhere near Aitkin, Minnesota, go! By the way it's free, so you have no excuse.

Digidestined Adventurers

I've been watching Digimon again for the first time in many years. Here's the first set of kids in a style inspired by the Professor Layton series.

Featured by Crayola!

The official Crayola Facebook page has this on it:

It's the animation I made a while ago, since I used Crayola crayons for the foreground. This is pretty cool; like many people, those were the first things I remember drawing with. And their cerulean is the best color.

If you're in central Minnesota...

I don't like to post without a picture, but I won't be posting anything
I paint till after the judging, so here are some mushrooms I photographed.

Starting today, the Jaques Art Center plein air painting competition is going on! For the few next days, a bunch of painters, including myself, will be out and about Aitkin County, painting what we see. On Saturday all the paintings will be on display at the Center and winners selected. The judge is Mary Pettis. There's also a people's choice prize, so if you're around, come and see!

Clare's Costly Cookie bonuses!

The Catholic Book Blogger has a giveaway going for a copy of Clare's Costly Cookie by Julie Kelly, and also an interview with Julie Kelly! So I thought I'd share a little something behind-the-scenes: the sketch for one of the illustrations, of Our Lady and the Child Christ.

In the meantime

I've been awful busy lately, and I realize I've fallen behind on some of the things here, like the supposedly-weekly holy cards. Hopefully will get back to having more stuff to post soon, but in the meantime, here's a review of Clare's Costly Cookie, the book by Julie Kelly I illustrated.
