Despite the fact that you can see gaps between the papers, I'm pleased with this panel. The multi-page backrgounds are hard, man. It'd be easier if I used a bigger table.

It was a long time ago I first saw washi tape, in the collages of Japanese artist Ryono. I wanted to try it ever since, and now I've finally gotten my hands on a bunch of it. It may just take over.

Pure papercutting again, simple yet effective, I think. Lighting and depth is difficult in this medium, but heraldic-style silhouette is easy.

Bears in the Spotlight!

 

Bovodar and the Bears has been featured on the Arkhaven blog, with fascinating information about Slavic myths--from which the tale derives some aspects--that I didn't even know!

Then there is Morena, goddess of Death. But like Maha Khali of Hindustan, she is more complicated than a simple reaper of lives. Morena is the daughter of Lada, goddess of Spring and new life, as such joins Winter and death together into the rebirth of Spring. She represents the different stages of life.

When the Slavs became Christian, Morena would become known as the Baba Yaga.
