Gettysburg postcards

One kind of perk for Paper Doll Veronika Paper Doll Club members is uploads from my collection of antique ephemera, such as I use for the chapter title cards. As a special bonus during the crowdfund campaign for printed books, I'm sharing some with everybody!

Looking at these now may evoke bittersweet irony (especially "Eternal Peace in a Nation United") but let us, finding ourselves overlooking a somewhat similar prospect, draw moral example from the courage and steadfastness of heroes like Lee, the countenance of whose monument when recently disgracefully destroyed reminded me forcefully of the Holy Face of Christ. Let us all be such an icon even in, if it comes to it, worldly defeat. And this is something I seek to express, however lightly, in Paper Doll Veronika, too.

Inside Thief Mountain

How all the caves and tunnels within Thief Mountain fit together in my comic Paper Doll Veronika. Not everything lines up perfectly because they weren't all scanned at exactly the same scale, and the ones with people are because I don't have a clean scan from before the scene got torn up by Lothar's emergence. Still, I think this is pretty cool.

The crowdfund campaign for a Paper Doll Veronika book is here!

Faux stained glass media test

I want to make faux stained glass, so I got Gallery Glass Liquid Leading, quickly made this pattern freehand on a spare piece of glass from a broken picture frame, and tested different media in the spaces:

The bottom blue and green corners, bottom red diamond, and left yellow diamond are nail polish. The center red diamond, top yellow corner, and upper left blue diamond are Higgins ink mixed with acrylic string gel. And the rest are Higgins ink mixed with Elmers clear glue.

The verdict is the Elmers clear glue works best, but the others may be useful for particular effects.

Of course it'd be grander to make real stained glass, but my father says I'm too prone to injuring myself to use a soldering iron. ^_^

Mountain paths

Backgrounds from Paper Doll Veronika. I'm posting lots of extra bonus content during the crowdfund campaign to make printed books of Part I. Usually only members of the Paper Doll Club get to see the uncluttered backgrounds!

But soft! As of yesterday, we reached the goal of $500 to cover printing costs! That means, barring disaster, there will definitely be books made! So come claim one if you want it!

Fanart contest deadline extension!

Upon request, I have extended the Paper Doll Veronika fanart contest deadline to February 23, the same day as the end of the crowdfund. See the contest details here!

Paper Doll Veronika fanart contest!

To celebrate the launch of the crowdfund for printed books of Paper Doll Veronika Part I, we’re having a fanart contest!

The prizes are:

An original signed art piece: one of the chapter bonus pieces,

A hand-drawn articulated paper doll per winner’s directions, either sent to the winner or kept to be used in the comic, or

If the crowdfund is successful, a signed printed book of Part I – Forest.

And all winners plus honorable mentions get three-month access to the Paper Doll Club members’ page if they are not already members.

Winners will choose which of the above prizes they prefer.

There will be three categories, with one winner each:

Art by children: 13 years and younger

Art by adults: 14 years and older

Art generated by AI: In all honesty, this is mainly to ensure that no AI art is submitted to the other categories. I reserve the right to choose not to select a winner in this category if none of the entries is excellent.

Honorable mentions will be at my discretion. Colorings of Paper Doll Veronika ink outlines I have done (such as this) are eligible.

Send entries as jpg, png, or gif files to: snowflakeclockwork@gmail.com

with subject: PDV fanart contest

State your name and contestant category in the email. Up to five entries per person, but you can only win once unless you are the only entrant in a category.

The deadline is February 16, 2024.

A delay to the crowdfund

I had said the crowdfund for a printed book of Part I – Forest would begin today, but the crowdfund site administrative review said the campaign was lacking some information so it’s not yet approved. I am working on filling in the gaps and will let people know as soon as things are up and running. Thank you for your patience!!!

Paper Doll Veronika update and announcement

Paper Doll Veronika has updated; Chapter 26 of Part II, "Dusk on the Mountain", is complete!

The update starts here.

The chapter begins here.

The part begins here.

The story begins here.

This update marks the conclusion of Part II! With that, I would like to announce an upcoming crowdfund to produce physical, printed, paper books of Part I – Forest! This campaign will begin in one week, on Friday, January 26, and will run for one month with a goal of five hundred dollars, to cover the cost of ten books, or more if more money is accumulated. It will be on fundmycomic.com.

During the campaign, I’m going to be posting lots of content, including things normally reserved for Paper Doll Club members, and there will a fanart contest with lovely prizes! So check back in a week, whether you’d like to get your hands on a real book of Veronika’s adventures, want to support making that a reality, or just want to see a bunch of fun bonuses!

The comic updates on Fridays on my site and Sundays on Arktoons. (My site is ahead). I recommend using bookmarking or the "Save your place" gadget on my site, even once you catch up, because the site starts at the beginning and updates are several pages.

Veronika Bosch, who's never left her father's estate, has to go on a journey when envious animals kick her out. Half collage, half puppetry, it's the traditional media equivalent of an elaborate sprite comic.

Art of 2023

Farewell 2023! Well it was certainly a better year for me and mine than the previous, which was full of sorrow and grief. 2023 was full of growth and lots and lots of hard work.

All these except July, September, and December are art for Paper Doll Veronika; the remainder are for Bovodar and the Bears and my Christmas cards. And I'm nearing milestones: Part II of Veronika and Issue 3 of Bovodar are both almost done, and as soon as the latter is done I move to my number one artistic goal for 2024: working on Clockwork Dancer!!!

My number two artistic goal is: a crowdfund to print paper books of Paper Doll Veronika: Part I - Forest. I'm researching now but it won't be long! I'm not too ambitious, just looking to see if some people want a real book of it and if they do, to cover the cost of formatting, ordering, and shipping it. And regardless of how it shakes out, I'm sure I'll learn a lot through the effort.

Thank you for your attention through the year. God be with us in the next!

P.S. This also happens to be my one-thousandth post on this blog!
