Chapter 18 of Part II of Paper Doll Veronika, "Claws", continues posting on Arktoons!

The latest episode is here.

The series is here.

You can also read it on my own website. (I recommend my site for PC and Arktoons for mobile.)

Paper Doll Veronika update

Paper Doll Veronika has updated; Chapter 19 of Part II, "Lack of Mirth", continues!

The update starts here.

The chapter begins here.

The part begins here.

The story begins here.

I have one thing to say: look very closely.

It updates on Fridays on my site and Sundays on Arktoons. (My site is ahead). I recommend using bookmarking or the "Save your place" gadget on my site, even once you catch up, because the site starts at the beginning and updates are several pages.

Veronika Bosch, who's never left her father's estate, has to go on a journey when envious animals kick her out. Half collage, half puppetry, it's the traditional media equivalent of an elaborate sprite comic.

Approaching the Forest

A washi tape collage of an early scene in Paper Doll Veronika.

It was a long time ago I first saw washi tape, in the collages of Japanese artist Ryono. I wanted to try it ever since, and now I've finally gotten my hands on a bunch of it. It may just take over.

The Dragon of the Depths

Pure papercutting again, simple yet effective, I think. Lighting and depth is difficult in this medium, but heraldic-style silhouette is easy.

Bears in the Spotlight!

Bovodar and the Bears has been featured on the Arkhaven blog, with fascinating information about Slavic myths--from which the tale derives some aspects--that I didn't even know!

Then there is Morena, goddess of Death. But like Maha Khali of Hindustan, she is more complicated than a simple reaper of lives. Morena is the daughter of Lada, goddess of Spring and new life, as such joins Winter and death together into the rebirth of Spring. She represents the different stages of life.

When the Slavs became Christian, Morena would become known as the Baba Yaga.

Read the post here, and get excited, because I think a new episode of Bovodar and the Bears should be coming soon on Arktoons!
